The APPRAISE Consortium successfully held its first pilot on the 11th May 2023. The event took place at the Atlantis Water City in BTC City Ljubljana and directly involved:
Among the local involved parties were:
- ICSS (Institute for Corporate Security Studies) – Pilot leader
- MNZ-RS – Slovenian Ministry of Interior
- BTC City – The private security of the BTC city
This pilot took place at the premises of the Atlantis waterpark located in BTC City. It was coupled with the annual exercise of the Slovenian Police, involving local partners, along with national police, Slovenian SWAT Team, stakeholders and APPRAISE partners. This context provided a unique opportunity to demonstrate APPRAISE technologies in the exceptional context of the national exercise. The ambitious pilot scenario comprised social media analysis, prevention of a cyber-attack, localisation of a gunshot in the outside pool area, indoor gunshot detection, crowdsensing app, to mention only a few of the APPRAISE tools to be integrated and demonstrated. The pilot involved not only public and private security forces, but also volunteers. It also provided an opportunity to demonstrate the tools to more than 20 Slovenian and foreign stakeholders from organisations such as MNZ Policija, Pošta Slovenije and Plus Orbita who all attended the pilot.
The exercise presented was used to test new procedural and technological approaches in a real environment and in real time, which will aims to enable the introduction of state-of-the-art technologies and skills and better cooperation between public and private security operators in the field of protection of public spaces in the event of terrorist and other related attacks. Taking place at the Atlantis Water City in BTC City Ljubljana, the exercise is one of the four pilots of the APPRAISE project. The exercise demonstrated the applicability of the process and technology approaches developed so far within APPRAISE and provided a quality basis for further development and testing of the process and technology approaches in the other three pilots organised within the project. The involvement of the Slovenian Police in the pilot provided an opportunity to test their capabilities, equipment, organisation, tactics and effectiveness in dealing with such security events and incidents.
