Throughout its life-cycle the APPRAISE project has identified a number of specific use cases, each one will consider highly diversified soft targets that will help to evaluate and validate the solutions developed within the project. Use Case 1 will be organised around the Itzulia Basque Country event and in preparation of this several project partners attended this year’s event, which is took place from 4th - 9th April. The Tour of the Basque Country (officially known as: Itzulia Basque Country) is an annual cycling stage race held in the Basque Country and is one of the many races that makes up the UCI World Tour calendar.
During the visit, hosted by Project partner’s OCETA (race organisers) and VICOM, partners were given the opportunity to examine two stages of the race. Monday 4th April was the first day of the visit and took place at Hondarribia located in the Basque region next to the French border, where the Itzulia race began with a time trial stage. This provided a golden opportunity for partners to perform an assessment of security, technical and organizational aspects of all the relevant zones of the race.
The following day the visit placed partners at the start of the second stage of the race in Leitza, Navarre. This second stage of presented a new opportunity to assess the start of the race and carry out an evaluation of the future of Use Case 1 “in the field”, a very exciting and valuable experience for the project.
